We need your help! Samaritans
is entirely dependent on voluntary support, and new volunteers are
always needed. It's a challenging experience and it can be very
rewarding, knowing that you may have made a difference to someone's
life. So what does it take? Samaritans
volunteers come from all walks of life. You don't need any formal
qualifications or previous experience to be a Samaritan. You do need to
be able to listen and not judge people, allowing them the time and
space to explore and express their feelings. To be able to refrain from
offering advice and instead offer confidential emotional support. I don't think I could do that, not without help! Well
you wouldn't be alone there. Most volunteers probably felt that way
when they first decided to join. This is why we take a lot of time and
care in making sure you are properly trained to take calls. In addition
to the practical side of the Initial Training, we also place a great
emphasis on emotional support. Rest assured there will always be an
experienced Volunteer on hand to support you. Volunteers are never left
to cope with a harrowing call on their own. Still interested? If
you are over 18 and are able to spare approximately 4 hours a week with
the occasional overnight shift, then please ring 01 902 426422 to
find out more about joining Wolverhampton Samaritans or email us. I'd like to help, but listening is really not for me... No
problems, here at Wolverhampton we have a whole range of jobs that
still need doing. For example, fund-raising, publicity, admin support,
cleaning, secretarial support and building maintenance to name just a
few. If you would like to help out in any way, we'd love to hear from
you, please use the telephone number or email link above. I'd like to help, but I don't live near Wolverhampton…
